The Crate workshop was built for prefabrication at scale, enabling houses to be built in parts and assembled off site. We also use the workshop for fabrication of joinery, gates and furniture to name a few.
One of the prefabrication projects the workshop was used for was the SGA / Women in Architecture project this year, in which Crate helped with the build.
The remote nature of the site meant the building was panelised and helicoptered from a barge to the site.
Once the prefabrication was completed, the panels were shipped over to Great Barrier Island and assembled over 4 weeks. Credit to the all of the Architects involved for their achievement!
